R&R Powder Coatings, Inc to open operations in Lincolnton

Former Carolina Mills Facility Has a New Owner

R&R Powder Coatings, Inc to open operations in Lincolnton

Lincolnton, NC – R&R Powder Coatings recently purchased one of the former Carolina Mills buildings located at 569 S. Grove Street in Lincolnton in order to expand their production. R&R specializes in the application of dry powder to metal substrate then cured in an oven for a durable finish. The family owned business was established in April 2000 in a 10,000 sq. ft. building located in Dallas NC with ownership consisting of Ray Jenkins, President, Tim Hayes, Vice President, Charlotte Jenkins, CFO and Monica Hayes, Operations Manager. With only four employees initially, the company experienced a run of five continuous years of success, prompting them to expand to a 20,000 sq. ft. building and eventually to 30,000 sq. ft. adding 20 additional employees.

With the desire to locate in Lincolnton and with the growth of their company, R&R began their search for a suitable facility in the summer of 2013. The Carolina Mills building appeared to meet their growing needs. “The former Carolina Mills facility was the closest and most suitable facility for our needs and proximity to our Dallas office and plant, says Ray Jenkins, President of R&R Coatings. This plant could be the start of real growth for our company as it allows us to increase our capacity significantly.” After months of negotiations R&R closed on the building on April

2, 2014. Upgrades to the facility are well underway with contractors in place, the company anticipates being in full production by August 2014.

Although R&R did not qualify for incentives under the Lincoln County Industrial Incentive Grant Program or City of Lincolnton Incentive Grant Program, they will be investing approximately $700,000 in building upgrades and equipment. The company anticipates hiring 10 employees initially to include floor workers and powder coaters.

“What a great feeling it is when a company says that Lincolnton is where they want their expansion facility to be, especially with all of the competition we have. Not only does it create more job opportunities for our citizens, but it also brings an older building back to life with a new sense of purpose and mission. LEDA certainly appreciates their investment and will work with R&R in any way to make their transition a smooth one.” Bo King, Chairman of the Lincoln Economic Development Association.

Mayor John Gilleland states, “We are very happy R&R Coatings chose Lincolnton for their new location. They are a successful business that will fit in well in Lincolnton and will be another employment opportunity for our citizens.”

“It has been a pleasure to work with the folks from R&R Coatings, we welcome them to Lincolnton and Lincoln County. R&R will be a great addition to our existing industries” says, Crystal Gettys, Business Development Manager for LEDA.
