Pharmaceutical Company Finds Niche in Lincoln County

Alpharma USHP Inc. announced today it will expand its operations at its Indian Creek Industrial Park facility in Lincoln County. The company will expand its existing laboratory and add additional filling and line capacity to the manufacturing operation. The expansion will represent an investment of $7,000,000 and create at least 10 new jobs paying average weekly wages of $620.

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners continued its support of economic development and helped solidify Alpharma’s decision to expand by passing an incentive grant request earlier this month. The company will receive approximately $120,000 in incentives, which will be paid out in equal installments over a five year period. Board chairman Tom Anderson stated “We view the decision by Alpharma to expand their operations in Lincoln County as further testament to the success of Lincoln County in providing a business friendly environment for those firms that are a part of our existing business base. We appreciate Alpharma’s expression of confidence in Lincoln County and its citizens as demonstrated by this decision to proceed with this proposed expansion and the jobs it will provide for the citizens of Lincoln County. We wish them continued success and look forward to future similar announcements.”

Vince Webb, Alpharma site director, shared his thoughts on the future of the Indian Creek facility. “We are very excited about this expansion and appreciate the support of the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners, other Lincoln County officials, and Lincoln Economic Development Association. This expansion will give us additional line and laboratory testing capacity in support of both our ongoing production and new development opportunities.

According to the company website, “Alpharma is a leading manufacturer of generic pharmaceutical products in the U.S., offering solid, liquid and topical pharmaceuticals. It is also one of the largest suppliers of generic solid dose pharmaceuticals in Europe, with a growing presence in Southeast Asia.” Locally the company employs around 190 individuals, making it Lincoln County’s tenth largest industrial employer.
