Motor Sports Business Directory Encourages Industry

With the second Motor Sports Directory released by the Lincoln Economic Development Association for the year 1004, evidence shows the industry is growing fast locally. Laura Foor, existing business coordinator with the Lincoln Economic Development Association, said the motor sports directory was started last year to help the county recruit more motor sports business. “We know we will never be Mooresville or Concord, but this allows us to get a good hold on what we have,” Foor said. Listed in this year’s directory are 24 businesses. Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure is just one of the booming businesses included in the directory. Tim Shannon, president of Dale Jarrett, said he hopes to make his business a $20 million dollar company within the next five years. The racing adventure is like a traveling circus, he said. The company travels to different race tracks around the country, teaching students to drive. It is all recreational fun though, Shannon said. These drivers are not learning to drive professionally, but are taking the ride of a lifetime. “We are giving people lifetime memories,” Shannon said. In its Denver location, race cars are lined up in the garage. John Ervin, crew chief for the pro racing industry works on the cars, tuning them up to top notch shape before they are taken out on the raceway. Shannon enjoys having his business in Denver as opposed to Huntersville or Cornelius. “It is so busy in those other areas,” he said. He said due to all the other racing industries in the area, it is easy to get parts. Shannon has relocated his business since last year from roughly a 7,000 square foot building to roughly a 16,000 square foot building. The move was from another Denver address. In his shop, Shannon has 14 cars, and he hopes to get another one this year. He also hopes to do radio announcements every month to let people know who they are and what they have to offer. “I hope we will be here a long time,’ he said.
