Celebrate Those that Fuel our Economic Engine
With the “celebrate those that fuel our economic engine” slogan in mind, the Lincoln Economic Development Association recognized the Motorsports Industry on Tuesday, October 19th, as part of Industry Appreciation Month. Hosted by Doug and Ginger Herbert, at Doug Herbert Performance, representatives from motorsports related businesses were shown appreciation for their contribution to the economy of Lincoln County at the afterhour’s event. Recognized for his part, Doug Herbert spoke to his peers regarding his business experience in Lincoln County and the current variety of activities in which he is involved. Attendees were treated to a tour of the facility, including: the High-Energy engine shop, a demonstration of the Good Motorsports Chassis Dyno, insight into Doug’s activity with his program BRAKES and details of his efforts to break the landspeed record at over 500 mph. Executive Director of the North Carolina Motorsports Association, Andy Papathanassio, spoke as well to the attendees. Andy addressed the purpose of the NCMA and how the association can be a benefit to the membership through networking, communicating and lobbying. Specifically, he used an example of how the NCMA lobbied for the use of vehicle combinations up to 90 feet (cab/trailer), opposed to the approved 60 feet on interstates and highways, within North Carolina. Prior to the passing of this legislation, anyone transporting on a cab/trailer longer than 60 feet, would be doing so illegally. Thus, the whole category of dragsters was affected by the positive outcome of these efforts. Just one example of how the NCMA works for the whole motorsports industry. The afterhour’s event was the first time the motorsports industry was recognized as part of Industry Appreciation Month. Also in attendance and showing their support, were members of the business and manufacturing community within Lincoln County.
