2017 Industry of the Year is Awarded to Cataler, North America

Lincoln County –LiCataler 2017 1ncoln Economic Development Association (LEDA) annually presents the Industry of the Year award at the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet. With the purpose of promoting and highlighting the contributions and exemplary corporate citizenship of Lincoln County’s existing industries, the Lincoln Economic Development Association proudly recognized Cataler, North America as its 2017 Industry of the Year.

Selected by the Lincoln Economic Development Association Board of Directors based upon four criteria: a positive impact in Lincoln County, involvement in the community, a leader in their field with a positive performance record and a high standard of conduct. This year, Cataler stood out for their contributions to the community and ongoing economic commitment to Lincoln County.

As a requirement of their corporate mission, it is a goal of Cataler to “promote good corporate citizenship and community involvement.” It is not just the participation of the management that is encouraged, but also that of its team members. So much so, team member participation is measured as part of an annual evaluation process. Their goal is to have at least 50% of their plant population to support community charities. Last year they were at 67%.

Last year’s contributions included:

  • Adopt-A-School partner with G.E. Massey Elementary School. Cataler support included a $1500 donation, participation in several projects, volunteer in the Lunch Buddies program, collected for an Angel Tree at Christmas and served snow cones on Beach Day.
  • Corporate donations to Lincoln County Christian Ministries, Hesed House, Amy’s House, HATS (Helping Animals Survive) and Lincoln County Animal Shelter.
  • In 2017, they raised $7,148 for The American Cancer Society through a Relay For Life Team. The team consisted of 27 team members, 4 supervisors, & 1 assistant manager who meet once a week for planning events. Their team was recognized as the Lincoln County “Spirit of Relay” award winner.
  • They also host two Blood Drives each year and provide team members with approximately 80% of their YMCA memberships fees.

Headquartered in Kakegawa, Japan, Cataler is a leading automotive catalyst manufacturer, and parts supplier for Toyota, GM and Subaru. The catalyst is a key component in vehicle emissions technology. Cataler is committed to providing cost-effective solutions that will benefit society through a cleaner environment.

Cataler was established in the Lincoln County Industrial Park in 2001 with a $45 million investment and has expanded its facility twice since that time. Cataler has also gone through numerous equipment expansion with investments well over $53 million since their initial opening. They currently employ approximately 350 team members.

LEDA’s Existing Industry Manager, John Dancoff, praised the winner, “Cataler is the type of company that is always available to contribute when asked, they are enthusiastic about the community and workforce development. Lincoln County is extremely fortunate to have Cataler as one of our own.”

The Lincoln Economic Development Association recognizes and celebrates with Lincoln County the contributions made by this respectable corporate citizen. Cataler North America has served Lincoln County well in all categories and is certainly well deserving of this year’s Industry of the Year Award.
